Message No, I have never owned the Silver hardtop. That car was owned by Ben Blalock, the guy who drove the Red '98 to the 9.91 time. It is now owned by Jarrett Humphrey's, the big cheese at PowerMouse. Blalock also drove the Silver hardtop to (2) 9.9 times himself. Despite the claims on PMR website, he did not let out at half track but had an NOS backfire that blew apart the sheet metal intake manifold on the car. They taped it back up and came back to run a 10.39 in the finals. This event was broadcast on ESPN2's show Inside Drag Racing and you can see the run at [ www.mkiv.com ] video archives. There is a massive burst of rich black smoke indicative of a serious NOS backfire, NOT letting off the throttle at half track. I saw the damage to the intake manifold with my own eyes since I was at the race myself.

About the Red '98, it went through three major transitions. It started out as a BPU car, then a testbed car for HKS Twins then was upgraded once more in 4 days for a NOPI event at HRP. Jarrett had a problem with his cam gears coming off of the car when it had the twins on it, blowing the oilpan off of the motor. Once the car was singled, I believe they got a 10.6 and a 10.3 out of it that meet. It had a T-70 Mitsubishi turbo at this time, which still belongs to me and is not in my possesion! They were running an unusual NOS system on the car at this time called a Push system which uses an extra bottle of inert Nitrogen to maintain and ideal bottle pressure.

After I bought the car and invested in the Motec hardware tuning session, a T72 Ball bearing turbo was put on and the push system was taken off in favor of a standard direct port NOS system using NOS angled jets plumbed at the top of the intake runners. After 12 hours of dyno and track tuning, the car was taken to the Ennis event where it ran the 9.91 @ 143.8 mph.

As to the claims of detuning the car, I have no idea what they might have done. I do have the computer program used to tune the car and the programs they ran the car with. As soon as my Yellow Supra is built I plan to look over these programs and I will of course share what I find, continuing my crusade of cutting through all of the myth creation that tends to appear on the 'net concerning this vastly over rated car.

: Supra owners always think big...that's why there are so many fast one's out there. Finally some Z guys are starting to think big like Supra owners (Mike H, Sparkie, TTPete, Fred, Gyro and Rob of DSP)... all should be able to run low 10's or high 9's or faster when their plans come togeather.

: Didn't you have to give Powerhouse a silver supra hard top in trade in when you purchased the Red car from them?...and now that's their race car? Also I've heard that they de-tuned the red car down to the 790 RWHP range when they ran 9.9's in it.
